In his black and white photographs Antoine Gonin depicts the traces that human activity leaves on the landscape. Combining a documentary lens with a refined formal language, his visions of man-made environments have been captured in the course of his many travels around the globe. Water is an essential motif in this work. It appears as a source of life, but also as an abstract background on which signs inspired by calligraphy as well as by minimal art unfold, thus becoming a poetic field for the imagination.
